Oh.my.goodness.

These past two weeks have been exhausting! Deadline after deadline, day after day.. I decided to come home for the weekend to relax and get it together for it felt as though I have been taking crazy pills. Tomorrow we have to hand in a brand name proposal for the new FEDISA residence

I enjoyed seeing my dogs this weekend! My friend and I live in the city and come home every other weekend, so we don’t really see a lot of domesticated animals, and I LOVE animals so it makes it that much harder. I miss my three dogs all the time, so to fill that void I try to pet Dexter (Allen Leroux, FEDISA’s academic director and CEO’s Staffie) every time he makes an appearance in our classroom BUT I don’t think he’s too fond of that idea.. He gives me an “oh hell no” look from time to time when I’m yelling out “Dexterrr!”. Yes. It’s sad.

Strange and Beautiful

So, you want me to tell you about FEDISA (Future Excellence Design Institute of South Africa) and my final year? Then I will tell you about FEDISA and my final year.

Studying fashion is definitely no joke. It is hectic. Third year is a solid-lack-of-social-life kind of hectic. This year, 2011, is basically the start of our futures.. Scary thought? Yes. Yes it is.

A LOT of creativity and maybe, no, most definitely a touch of weirdness is needed when studying fashion. Let’s be honest people, all of us, or at least 99.9% of us, are a little bit cooked in the head. Personally, I think this is a very good thing, for I find out of the ordinary designs, sketches, photos and especially art pieces intriguing and so, obviously I stay interested.

At the moment we are busy with our graduate collections. These will be showcased at the FEDISA Graduate Collection Show at the end of the year. I will be posting photos of my inspirations, croque book sketches and my storyboard designs as well as the final drafts of my collection throughout this year to give you an idea of what us fashion creatures are up to and capable of.

My concept is somewhat peculiar and unusual, but I like to think of it as strange and beautiful.. I hope you will too.

PLATO'S ATLANTIS

"When Charles Darwin wrote The Origin Of The Species, no one could have known that the ice cap would melt, that the waters would rise and that life on earth would have to evolve in order to live beneath the sea once more or perish. We came from water and now, with the help of stem cell technology and cloning, we must go back to it to survive."

This collection is about the future ecological meltdown of the world and dreamy creatures evolving from the sea, wearing exceptional aqua and blue couture dresses as well as garments resembling snake skin and insect patterns. It is without a doubt one of my favourite collections by Alexander McQueen. Plato's Atlantis is completely original, it is strange yet intriguing and it is oh-so beautiful.. Strange and Beautiful.
